William J. Pogoda, M.D.

Dr. William J. Pogoda graduated in 1976 from Hahnemann Medical School in Philadelphia and did post-graduate work at the Guthrie Clinic- Robert Packer Hospital with continuation at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore where he became chief resident in ophthalmology in 1979.  He did training at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, in the Karolinska system at Serrafimmerer Laserrettet in Stockholm, Sweden, and at Jackson Memorial Hospital/Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida.

Dr. Pogoda has been an Outward Bound participant and is a former technical rock and mountain climber.  He now enjoys scuba diving, swimming, body building, fly fishing, grouse hunting, and target and clay bird shooting.  At Brookhaven National Laboratory, he worked in high energy particle physics which later evolved into "standard model" theory of field interaction.  At the Illinois Institute of Technology, he worked with turbulent flow analysis in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.  He entered medical school in 1972 and in 1976, went on to specialize in ophthalmology.  He enjoys designing and building computers, attending Broadway plays, and the symphony.  Frances, his wife of 26 years, is also a physician.  They have had four children: Eve, Vince, Erik, and Mary Elizabeth.
